A Different kind of Medicine Cabinet

Before 2014, my medicine cabinet probably looked a lot like everyone else’s. There was Tylenol, Neosporin, Tums, Benadryl for my allergies, Theraflu when cold and flu season came around, a few specialty creams for dry skin, and whatever else I thought our family might need. If we ran out of something, I went to Walgreens and bought another one. That was normal to me, and honestly, it was really all I knew. Then I began learning about essential oils, and over time something started to change. It wasn’t an overnight decision where I suddenly threw everything in my medicine cabinet away. It happened slowly, as I learned about one oil, then another, and became more comfortable understanding how and when to use them. Month after month, I realized that this little box of oils sitting in my home was becoming one of the first places I looked when someone in our family needed a little extra support.

My first collection was called the Family Essentials Kit. It contained ten oils and blends, and that little box completely changed the way I approached wellness in our home. Instead of always thinking, What do I need to go buy? I started thinking, What do I already have here that I can reach for? More than a decade later, using essential oils in our home has simply become second nature to me.

That’s one of the reasons I was so happy when doTERRA introduced Nature’s Rx. It reminds me so much of that first little box I started with all those years ago. It brings together a thoughtful collection of essential oils and blends that can support so many of the everyday things that come up in family life. Lavender is one of my favorites for creating a calm, restful atmosphere, and Tea Tree is one I like to keep on hand for simple skin care and cleansing. The rest of the collection gives you options for things like digestive comfort, tired or sore muscles, seasonal wellness, creating a more restful evening, freshening the air, grounding the emotions, and simply having a few natural tools nearby when you want a little extra support.

That’s really the beauty of a kit like this. You don’t have to memorize every oil or know exactly what every single one does on day one. You can start with a few, become familiar with them, and over time begin to understand which ones you naturally reach for most in your own home. And this is where essential oils became so practical for me. If my stomach feels unsettled, DigestZen is one of the first oils I think of. Depending on the product directions, I may use it topically with Fractionated Coconut Oil or use it internally when the label specifically allows for that. It has simply become part of the way I care for myself. If Damon’s shoulder is bothering him from an old motorcycle injury, I often reach for Deep Blue and gently massage it into the area. Sometimes the combination of the oil, massage and a little nurturing touch is just what he needs to become more comfortable and settle back down.

Then there’s nighttime. Lavender and Serenity have been part of my evening routine for years. Sometimes I diffuse them, sometimes I apply a little diluted oil before bed, and I love the ritual of those familiar aromas signaling that the day is winding down. There is something so comforting about having these simple little tools nearby and knowing what works well for you and your family.I think that’s really what I love most about this way of approaching wellness. It isn’t about having an answer for everything or believing that essential oils replace doctors, medicine or modern healthcare. They don’t. For me, they simply became another layer of care in our home , something natural that I could learn about, become familiar with and use thoughtfully alongside everything else.

Nature’s Rx feels like such a beautiful place to begin for someone who has been curious about essential oils but has looked at all those little bottles and wondered where in the world to start. You really don’t need to know everything. I certainly didn’t. You learn one oil at a time, use it, become comfortable with it, and before long you may find yourself reaching for that little box without even thinking about it.

That’s exactly how it happened for me.

My hope in sharing this isn’t to convince anyone to replace what already works for their family. It’s simply to introduce another possibility — one that comes from plants, curiosity and learning how to care for ourselves in ways that feel a little closer to nature. And if that little box sitting in your home eventually becomes as loved and well-used as mine has been, I think you’ll understand exactly why I wanted to share it with all of you today.

XO……Melissa
